The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony nears, one notices a demand to include of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
