The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team could be crafting a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
