19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from that period of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The pair swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
